Colour laser printers have always been out of reach of the home and small office user in terms of their big outlay in purchasing not just the printer and also the printer cartridges. The Samsung CLP-300 is designed specifically to offer an affordable solution to the home and small office user, it doesn’t cost that much more than an average inkjet printer and it offers all the things that inkjet printers are lacking. Laser printers are usually big bulk machines because they have to house the toner cartridges but the Samsung CLP-300 toner cartridges are a unique design which slot neatly into the front of the machine and this means that the overall small of the machine is incredibly compact. Because the Samsung toner cartridges are smaller than usual this means they print less, the three colours yield 1,000 each and the black yields 2,000 pages. When you start printing with the CLP-300 you notice its smooth and quiet operation which is a pleasant surprise and confirms that the build quality of the CLP-300 is very good. The quality of text documents is very good, colour graphics are handled easily although the speed is reduced from 16ppm to 4ppm and can be a little slow when printing documents with a lot of colour graphics. The CLP-300 only failing in terms of performance is its photo printing, the photos look grainy and the colour looks too heavy. Although a lot of thought has gone into the design of the CLP-300 with regards to packaging it seems that Samsung didn’t make much of an effort cosmetically, it looks very basic and not very attractive at all. In summary the Samsung CLP-300 is a good buy for those with very basic print needs. If you need more speed or great photo printing capabilities, you’ll have to spend a lot more money.
